Softball's Schkade Garners NFCA All-Region Honors
Senior Named All-South Region Third Team
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - Senior Kelli Schkade was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Division I All-South Region Third Team on Thursday. It's the fourth award Schkade has earned in her senior campaign.
It marks the third time that a North Texas player has garnered all-region recognition and the NFCA recognition is the first of Schkade's career.
In her final season for North Texas, Schkade hit a team-best .346 with 64 hits, eight doubles, five triples, nine home runs and 26 RBI to go with her 41 runs scored. Her 64 hits, five triples, nine home runs and 22 multi-hit games were all team bests. Schkade put up those impressive numbers while playing the 10th-toughest non-conference schedule in the nation.
At the end of her three-year career in Denton, Schkade goes down as one of the best athletes to ever wear a uniform for the softball program. The Albany, Texas, native is the program leader in steals in a season (22), runs scored in a season (52) and career steals (50), while ranking third in career average (.334), runs scored (124) and on-base percentage (.409). She is also in the top five in slugging percentage (.563) and multi-hit games (51).
In her time at North Texas, Schkade was twice selected as a member of Conference USA's First Team, was a three-time C-USA All-Academic honoree, was named to CoSIDA's All-Academic First Team in region seven, was a fall Spirit of Service recipient for her work in the community and was a three-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient for work in the classroom.
