Three Mean Green Players Named To All-Sun Belt Softball Team

Junior first baseman Mallory Cantler was named to the first team for the third straight year, while Mariza Martinez received second-team honors in the outfield for the second straight season. Senior pitcher Ashley Lail was named all-conference for the first time in her career. She was named to the second team. Cantler is the first North Texas player to be named first-team All-Sun Belt three straight years.
Canter leads the Mean Green and is eighth in the conference with a .355 batting average. The first baseman is second on the Mean Green with 49 hits and 29 RBI and third with seven doubles and seven home runs. Among Sun Belt leaders, she is ranked in slugging percentage (9th), on-base percentage (6th), total bases (10th) and walks (10th). Four of her home runs came against Sun Belt teams, including two in a single game against FIU. She is third on the team with 12 multi-hit games, including seven against conference opponents.
Martinez leads NT with 53 hits, 11 doubles, 35 RBI, 97 total bases and is tied for the team lead with nine stolen bases. She is tied for second on NT and 13th in the conference with a .338 batting average. She also ranks in the conference in slugging percentage (5th), hits (9th), RBI (T5th), doubles (T6th) and home runs (T5th). She posted two three-RBI games against FIU, posting seven hits in the three-game series and was named conference player of the week (April 5). Her 35 RBI is fourth on NT's single-season record list and her 11 doubles and nine home runs are both tied for the fifth-most in school history.
Lail holds the second-lowest overall ERA in the Sun Belt at 1.89 and has the nine-most wins with 12. She has held opponents to a .234 batting average, which is the fifth lowest in the Sun Belt. She has pitched 126 innings this season, the eighth most in the Sun Belt. The senior has given up the second-fewest hits and the fewest earned runs and home runs in the conference. In conference only games, she has the lowest ERA (1.58). She has given up just one home run in 70.2 innings against Sun Belt teams.
North Texas (27-18, 12-9 Sun Belt) received a No. 3 seed in the conference tournament and will face No. 6 Troy on Wednesday, May 12 at 10 a.m.
