Softball's Schkade Earns C-USA All-Academic Honors
Senior Maintains A 3.88 GPA
IRVING, Texas – The awards keep rolling in for senior Kelli Schkade as the infielder was one of 14 Conference USA student-athletes named to the InTouch Credit Union All-Academic team, announced by the league office on Wednesday.
It marks the third-straight selection for Schkade, who has been named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll list and has been awarded a C-USA Academic medal each of her three years as well.
Schkade maintains a 3.88 grade-point average while majoring in kinesiology with a biology minor.
On May 4, Schkade was named to the 2017 Academic All-District first team in the seventh district by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for her performance on the field and in the classroom.
Additionally, the Albany, Texas, native was named First-Team All-C-USA on May 8, marking her second-second-straight selection. She leads the team in average (.343), hits (63), runs (42), triples (five) and home runs (nine). Additionally, Schkade has tallied 21 multi-hit games this season, the third-most in a single season for a North Texas hitter.
The Albany, Texas, native also etched herself atop the North Texas record book after recording her 18th stolen base of the season on April 19 against Abilene Christian, setting the single-season program record. She has since swiped four more bases, bringing her season total to 22. The 22 stolen bases up her career total to 50, the most a North Texas player has amassed in a career.
North Texas opens the C-USA Championship against Charlotte on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
