Cantler Named Academic All-District

DENTON, Texas (5/7/10) - North Texas junior first baseman Mallory Cantler was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team for the second straight year, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Cantler, a operations and supply chain management major, is the third softball student-athlete to be named to the academic all-district team in the seven-year history of the North Texas softball program. She is the first Mean Green softball student-athlete to receive the award more than once. Cantler is earning her bachelor’s degree in three years and will work towards her MBA as a senior this fall. She has been named to the Dean’s List and President’s List at North Texas and the Academic Honor Roll and Sun Belt Commissioner’s List.

The Jarrell, Texas native led the Mean Green to its first winning season in school history in 2010. She is first on the team and seventh in the conference with a .355 batting average. She is second on the team with 45 hits and 29 RBI. She hit a personal-best seven home runs this season, which is third on the team. The Mean Green tied a school record for home runs in a season with 49.

To be nominated for the Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore starter or significant reserve on her team with a 3.3 cumulative grade point average. District VI represents student-athletes in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
