North Texas' Strunk Named to C-USA First Team All-Conference

Conference USA Release

MIAMI, Fla. -- Conference USA announced the all-conference awards for the 2015 season on Wednesday, and for the second straight year, North Texas is represented on the conference's first team. Outfielder Kat Strunk, the defending C-USA Newcomer of the Year, was named to the highest honor after putting together an impressive senior campaign that saw her lead the Mean Green in 11 different offensive categories during conference play.

In just her second season at North Texas, after transferring from local NCTC, Strunk picked up right where she left off in 2014. The senior hit a solid .367 average, blasting 13 home runs and knocking in 40 RBI en route to etching her name in the North Texas record book a few times along the way.

"It's an honor to receive the recognition," Strunk said. "But ultimately it comes down to my teammates doing their jobs too. If they didn't get on base in the first place, then I wouldn't have had the numbers that I did--so credit to them as well."

While the senior might be excited by the individual accolade, she and the rest of her Mean Green teammates have their eyes set on a much larger prize, a Conference USA Championship. Led by Strunk, North Texas opens up the tournament with a first round matchup with No. 2 seeded FAU on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET in Miami. The Mean Green eliminated the 2014 tournament-host FAU last season in the opening round, 5-4 in ten innings.
