Last 24 Hours To Bid On Items In Auction

DENTON, Texas (5/5/11) -There is only 24 hours left to bid on items in the Rally For Abby On-Line auction on MeanGreenSports.com. Items for sale include a slow-pitch bat, official North Texas game jerseys and charity t-shirts. Proceeds from the auction will benefit TWU softball player Abby Burns.

The North Texas and UTA softball teams are joining up to raise money for TWU softball player Abby Burns who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in January. The two teams played two charity games during the 2011 season to raise money for Abby's medical expenses.

For the past three years, the two teams have each hosted strikeout cancer games at their respective schools, benefiting the American Cancer Society. This year, the two programs have decided to raise money for Burns, who was a teammate of current North Texas softball player Hayley Siebman. Siebman played with Burns at TWU in 2010.The Mean Green wore orange shirts with No. 19 on the shirt sleeve in Abby's honor. Orange is the awareness color for leukemia.

All donations from the charity games and the on-line auction will go towards the medical expenses for Abby. Abby was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in January 2011 and is currently undergoing chemotherapy and awaiting a bone marrow transplant.
