Last Conference Series Of Regular Season Is Key For Mean Green Softball

DENTON, Texas (4/30/10) - The North Texas softball team always plays Louisiana-Lafayette in its final conference series of the regular season. The three-game series always has significance, but with the Mean Green currently in third place in the Sun Belt rankings, this weekend is of high importance.

The North Texas softball team travels to Lafayette, La. to face the Ragin' Cajuns in a doubleheader on Saturday, May 1 at 2 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 11 a.m. The Mean Green could move up in the standings with a good performance and some help from other opponents. ULL stands in first place with a record of 14-4.

The Mean Green is setting numerous firsts in 2010. NT has secured its first winning season in school history with a record of 26-14. North Texas also sits in third place in the conference, its highest standing this far in the season.

North Texas has posted 48 home runs this season, one shy of tying the school record for most home runs in a single season. The Mean Green is ranked 18th nationally in home runs per game. Lisa Johnson leads the way with 10, good enough for 90th nationally. According to the NCAA, she is also the 40th toughest person to strikeout in Division I softball.

Ashley Lail is posting a earned run average of 1.72, a personal best and a Mean Green best. She is ranked second in the conference and 49th nationally for lowest ERA.
