Softball Plays Important Series This Weekend

DENTON, Texas (4/30/11) - The North Texas softball team plays an important conference series this weekend at home. The Mean Green faces Troy on Saturday in a doubleheader. Due to weather concerns, the doubleheader has been moved up to 11 a.m.

The Mean Green will play the third game on Sunday at 12 p.m. Sunday is also Senior Day for seven North Texas players.

North Texas needs to win the conference series this weekend in order to keep itself alive in the conference tournament race. The Mean Green will also need help from Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky in making the top eight eligible for the conference tournament.

North Texas won the series against Troy last year but went 0-2 against the Trojans in the conference tournament. North Texas swept Troy at home in 2009. The Mean Green is 9-12 overall against the Trojans. Troy is 28-23 this season and 9-10 in the Sun Belt, good for sixth place.

The Mean Green will honor seven seniors on Sunday, May 1st for Senior Day. All seven have contributed to the success of the North Texas softball program. Renae Bromley, Courtney Bradshaw, Mallory Cantler and Mariza Martinez have been a part of the program all four years, while Anna Barren is a three-year letterwinner after transfering from Houston Baptist. Monica Hirsch joined the team for her junior and senior seasons, and Hayley Siebman transferred from TWU to spend her senior year at North Texas.
