DENTON, Texas (4/19/111) - The North Texas softball team looks for a road win tonight when it faces Texas State at 5 p.m.
The Mean Green (19-25, 5-13) has a tough week ahead, facing two teams in four games on the road. North Texas faces Texas State in a single game on Tuesday and then plays a three-conference game series against South Alabama on Thursday and Friday in Mobile, Ala. The Mean Green is 2-10 away from Lovelace Stadium.
Texas State is 24-18 overall and 17-7 in the Southland Conference. The Bobcats have won their last nine straight games. North Texas swept the doubleheader against Texas State last year at home and leads the series, 5-2.
The Mean Green won its first conference series of the season with two wins against ULM this past weekend. With the two wins, North Texas also set a home-win record at Lovelace Stadium with 15. North Texas has six more games at home in 2011. With the two conference wins, North Texas moved into a tie for seventh place in the conference standings with two more conference series on the schedule.
With the 8-1 victory against ULM, head coach T.J. Hubbard posted his 100th career win at North Texas. He is the program’s all-time winningest coach. Under Hubbard, the Mean Green has posted the most wins in a single season and the first winning season in school history. All but one of the team single-season records have been set under Hubbard’s watch. During Hubbard’s tenure, North Texas has defeated nationally-ranked Texas, Missouri and Baylor.
Megan Rupp had a standout game in the 2-1 win against ULM. She went 2-for-2, scored the game-winning run and prevented an extra-base hit with a jumping catch at the wall. In the last play of the game, she also started the relay which resulted in a game-ending tag at the plate. In the three-game series, Rupp hit .429 with three hits and a walk.
