Mean Green Takes To The Road This Weekend

DENTON, Texas (4/13/12) - The Mean Green softball team takes to the road this weekend to face ULM in Monroe, La. North Texas faces the Warhawks in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Saturday and a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

North Texas (18-19-1, 8-6-1) has not played away from Denton since March 25 when it capped its Spring Break trip with three games in Miami against FIU. North Texas is hoping to improve on its 1-11 road record. The record is a little deceiving; North Texas is also 6-5 in neutral games so the Mean Green is more than capable of winning on the road.

North Texas has won the last two conference series against the Warhawks but has not swept the series since 2007. ULM is currently 16-18 overall and 3-9 in conference play.

The Mean Green won its eighth conference game last weekend, improving to 8-6-1 in the Sun Belt. The eight wins is one more victory than the 2011 team finished with and is good enough for fourth place in the standings. With nine more conference games on the schedule, North Texas has a good shot of besting its conference win total. The 2010 team won 12 Sun Belt games.

Lisa Johnson tied her own school record for walks in a single-season against Texas State with 29. She holds the single-season and career walks record. Through games of April 1, Johnson was ranked 31st nationally in walks.

Maddelyn Fraley is having one of the best single-season performances in school history. With her five RBI against Texas State, the senior moved into fourth place on the single-season RBI record list with 37. Susan Waters holds the record with 53. She also hit her team-leading 10th home run of the season against the Bobcats, which moves her into sole possession of 5th place in the record book.

She is fifth in the conference in RBI and tied for third in home runs. Nationally, she is ranked 63rd in home runs per game and 71st in runs batted in per game.
