North Texas Hosts Missouri Today

DENTON, Texas (3/30/11) - The North Texas softball team will host its second charity game of the season on Wednesday when it plays No. 11 Missouri in a doubleheader.

North Texas (14-17) is facing Missouri for the first time in school history. Missouri has played in the last two College World Series and has dropped only three games this season. The Mean Green is raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project and will wear special uniforms for the doubleheader. All proceeds raised from t-shirt sales and cash donations will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors.

With her two walks in the 12-3 loss to FIU, Lisa Johnson tied the career school record for walks with 61. She ties Susan Waters who set the record in 2007. Johnson already holds the single-season record with 29. The junior has drawn a team-leading 12 walks this season.

In the 12-3 loss to FIU, Mariza Martinez knocked in her 100th career RBI. She joins Mallory Cantler, who also hit 100 this season, as only the third player in school history to post at least 100 RBI in her career. Cantler is second on the career RBI list with 118, while Martinez is third. Susan Waters holds the record with 138 career RBI. Martinez is three runs away from moving into second place alll-time in runs scored. She currently has 114 runs scored. Katya Muller holds the record with 122.

In 31 games played, the Mean Green has recorded 17 double plays. The 0.55 average is ranked No. 2 in the latest NCAA national rankings. North Texas was ranked as high as No. 1 in double plays per game in 2007.
