Schkade Earns Second Conference USA Weekly Honor
Junior Named Conference USA Co-Player of the Week For Week 7
IRVING, Texas — After a weekend that saw her lead North Texas in several offensive categories, including batting average (.571), on-base percentage (.667) and slugging percentage (.929), junior shortstop Kelli Schkade was recognized by the league office as the Conference USA Co-Player of the Week. It's the second Conference USA weekly honor for the Mean Green this season and the second of her career, earning the honor after the first week of play on February 15.
As part of 8-for-14 week, Schkade set a career high for hits, going 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBI in the second game of the weekend series against Western Kentucky. In the rubber game of the series against WKU, she went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI, and her two-run home run, her two-run home run gave North Texas a 7-5 lead and proved to be the game-winning runs in a 9-6 win that clinched the series for the Mean Green, handing WKU its first series loss as a member of Conference USA.
For the week, she tallied three-multi-hit games, giving her a team-high 14 multi-hit games this season, and two multi-RBI games, also giving her a team-high 10 multi-RBI games this season. She has hit safely in 28 of the 30 games this season, which included a school-record 19-game hit streak earlier in the season. She leads Conference USA and ranks eighth nationally with 11 home runs and also leads the league with 89 total bases and a slugging percentage of .848. Her batting average of .429 also ranks second in the league.
Coming off a 3-1 week that included a midweek win at Stephen F. Austin and the series win at WKU, Schkade and the Mean Green conclude a five-game road swing at Baylor on Wednesday, before returning home for a three-game Conference USA series against FIU beginning Saturday.
