Mean Green Softball Starts Play In Florida

Tampa, Fla (3/21/12) - The Mean Green softball team takes to the road for spring break, spending six days in three Florida cities and playing six games. North Texas begins play against Hartford (3-8) and No. 22 USF (25-5) on Wednesday, March 21 on the campus of USF.

On March 22, North Texas faces Dartmouth (4-5) on the campus of the Gulf Coast in Fort Myers and then rounds out the trip with three conference games against FIU in Miami, Fla.

The Mean Green rebounded from its 0-3 start in conference play with a sweep of Middle Tennessee this past weekend. North Texas run-ruled the Blue Raiders and then had two come-from-behind victories in the next two games. The Mean Green is now 3-3 in Sun Belt play and swept its first conference series since WKU in 2010. North Texas is now 14-16 in the all-time series versus the Blue Raiders.

Dani Hoff hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to give North Texas a come-from-behind 8-4 victory in the second game of the doubleheader against Middle Tennessee. The Mean Green trailed, 2-1, before scoring two runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. MT scored two runs in the top of the seventh to regain the lead. Megan Rupp tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and then Hoff cleared the bases with a grand slam. North Texas lost a 2-0 lead in the third game and scored five runs in the sixth to seal the win. Rupp tied the game for the second time during the series and Jordan Terry brought home the winning run with a bases-loaded walk.

Maddelyn Fraley led the Mean Green against Middle Tennessee with a .800 batting average and five RBI. In three games, she went 8-for-10 with two home runs and a slugging percentage of 1.400. In the 10-2 win, Fraley knocked in three of the runs in the seven-run second inning with a three-run homer. She went 3-for-3 in the game. The senior followed that up with a hit in the seventh inning of the second game when North Texas came back to win with a grand slam in the final inning. In the third game, she gave North Texas a 2-0 lead with her seventh home run off the season. She posted three of NT's seven hits in the game.

The Mean Green hit six home runs in the three-game series against Middle Tennessee. Maddelyn Fraley hit two, while Lisa Johnson, Brooke Foster, Caitlin Grimes and Dani Hoff each had one. Fraley leads the team with seven home runs and Grimes follows with six. Johnson and Foster each have three, and Hoff hit her first home run with the grand slam in the 8-4 win.
