North Texas Heads East For C-USA Showdown With FIU
Mean Green Hold 3-0 Record In C-USA Play
The Mean Green hold a 14-10 overall record, and sit atop the West bracket with a 3-0 record in conference. Game times are 3 and 5 p.m. (CT) on Saturday and noon (CT) on Sunday.
Fortunately, the Mean Green have responded well after losses, having not dropped back-to-back games since Feb. 12 against Arkansas and UMass Lowell. The squad is 7-1 in that span, including the 3-2 extra-inning victory over No. 23 Baylor.
North Texas senior Kelli Schkade pushed her hitting streak to 14 games with a 1-for-3 showing on Wednesday against OSU, so she is chasing her program-record streak of 19 games set last season. Additionally, the senior is seeking her 42nd career stolen base, which would surpass Brooke Foster's program-best total of 41.
Senior Stacey Underwood (8-4) didn't have her best stuff on Wednesday, lasting only 1.2 innings in the contest. The senior has rebounded nicely after suffering a loss, going a perfect 3-0 in starts immediately following that outing.
The Panthers, who received votes in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll this week, are currently on a nine-game winning streak, owning a 23-6 mark on the season.
FIU's Jackie Schoff leads C-USA in hits (38) and runs scored (32) and is among the top-10 in several other categories. The Panther's rotation has been superb this season, combining for a 1.90 earned-run average and limiting opponents to a .214 average.
FIU freshman Shannon Saile garnered C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday after securing four victories last week, while teammate Megan Kugelmann owns a 9-1 record in the circle for the Panthers, and paces the staff with a 1.67 ERA.
The last time the Mean Green were in Miami was March 21-22, 2015, and they left with a three-game sweep of the Panthers.
