DENTON, Texas (3/7/11) - North Texas redshirt freshman Ashley Kirk was named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week for her dominating performance last week in the circle, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

The recognition is the first in her career for Kirk and the first for the North Texas softball team this season. The Mean Green won the Courtyard Classic this past weekend with a 5-0 record.

Kirk had one of the most dominating performances by a North Texas pitcher in school history last week. She was voted tournament MVP of the Courtyard Classic after leading the Mean Green with a 3-0 record and a 0.00 ERA.

In the 7-0 win, Kirk threw a complete game and struck out eight Miners. She pitched two scoreless innings in relief to pick up her second win of the tournament against Ole Miss.

The righthander then threw a gem against Wichita State, holding the Shockers to four hits while striking out 14 batters in a 9-0 win. The 14 strikeouts is a single-game school record for the Mean Green. In four appearances, Kirk struck out 30 in 23 innings of work for an ERA of 0.91.
