March 6, 2017
IRVING, Texas -- After a week that saw the Mean Green go 4-2, including two wins over Wichita State (RV), freshman Lindsay Gregory and senior Stacey Underwood both received weekly honors, announced by the Conference USA office Monday.
Underwood garnered Pitcher of the Week and Gregory earned Co-Player of the Week honors. It is the first weekly honor for Gregory and the second of Underwood's career.
Gregory shined for the Mean Green this past week and was a catalyst offensively, helping the Mean Green to two come-from-behind victories against WSU and Texas Tech.
"I'm really proud of Lindsay and the numbers she put up this week," head coach Tracey Kee said. "As a freshman, she is fearless in the box and her ability to drive in runs, deliver clutch hits and help turn our offensive lineup over throughout games, puts us in a better position. Her competitiveness is fun to watch."
She went a combined 12-for-22 (.545) on the week with three doubles, two home runs and six RBI, while pushing her hitting streak to nine games. The five-extra base hits helped her to a .955 slugging percentage. The freshman had four multi-hit games, including two three-hit games, upping her season average to .356.
The Kingwood, Texas, native became the first North Texas player to hit two home runs in a game this season, cranking two solo shots against TTU in the Mean Green's 12-11 victory on Sunday. Defensively, Gregory made two starts at catcher and four at second base. She was a perfect 14-for-14 in putouts.
As for Underwood, she went 2-0 on the week, including back-to-back complete game performances against Saint Francis on Wednesday and WSU on Friday. North Texas did not lose a game in which she appeared.
"I'm really happy to see all of Stacey's hard work pay off," Kee added. "She's well aware of our long season, but I have no doubt her composure and confidence will continue to help our entire team moving forward."
The senior picked up her second save of the season in the Mean Green's 14-10 comeback-victory over the Shockers on Saturday.
She recorded 13 strikeouts, and only allowed four earned runs, upping her season record to 6-3 in the process. On the season, Underwood has 43 strikeouts and is limiting opposing hitters to a .224 average.
