Grimes Named Conference Co-Player Of The Week

DENTON, Texas (3/5/12)  -- North Texas senior catcher Caitlin Grimes was named Sun Belt Conference co-player of the week for her performance at the Downtown Hyatt Tulsa Tournament, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

The recognition is the first for Grimes and the second for the North Texas softball team this season. The Mean Green went 3-2 at the tournament this past weekend, falling in the championship game to Tulsa. Grimes shares the weekly honor with Louisiana-Lafayette's Nerissa Myers.

She hit two home runs in the win against Loyola Chicago, which was a first in her career, and then tied the game in the loss to Tulsa with a two-RBI single. She gave North Texas an early lead in the win against Austin Peay with a solo home run, her third of the tournament. She scored the only Mean Green run in the loss to Tulsa with a home run.

Overall, Grimes is batting .340 this season, is tied for the team lead with five home runs and leads the team with 16 RBI. The catcher moved into the top 10 in career RBI at North Texas with 61. She also jumped two spots in the career home runs list, landing at No. 7 with 17 home runs.
