IRVING, Texas - Senior pitcher Ashley Kirk was named the C-USA Pitcher of the Week following her three-win weekend that helped propel the Mean Green to a 5-0 sweep of the Texas Shootout.

"Kirk is a fierce competitor," head coach Tracey Kee said."I'm so glad to see all her hard work and attention to detail pay off. I believe she's in the best mindset that I've seen her in with regards to wanting to enjoy every game of her senior season."

The workhorse pitcher beat SFA and Texas State twice, including the Texas Shootout championship game, and posted an ERA of .370 in 19 innings of work.

"I am stunned to have gotten this honor," Kirk said. "I have to give the glory to God and the credit to my team. They played stellar defense and got me the run support I needed."

She struck out 24 batters and with the three wins, sits three more wins away from being the winningest pitcher in North Texas softball history. Batters averaged .113 at the plate against the ace and only got seven hits against her.

"Her desire to improve daily is only going to make us a better team," coach Kee concluded.

The Mean Green, which is 10-0 at home, continues play on Saturday, March 1, at 2:30 p.m. against Wichita State.
