Mean Green Softball Embarks On Long Road Trip

DENTON, Texas (2/20/13) - The North Texas softball team begins a long road trip on Wednesday when it heads to San Antonio. Following a doubleheader at UTSA on Wednesday night, the Mean Green continues on to San Marcos for the Texas Shootout, hosted by Texas State.

North Texas will play games on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. North Texas will play Texas State, Texas Tech, No. 25 Baylor and UTA.  

North Texas plays future Conference USA opponent UTSA on Wednesday in a doubleheader. North Texas is 4-3 in the all-time series against the Roadrunners. Starting in 2014, North Texas and UTSA will be conference rivals. North Texas defeated UTSA, 14-10, in 2011 at home.

North Texas is playing in the second annual Texas Shootout. The location rotates every year and Texas State is the host for the 2013 season. The Mean Green went 1-4 in last year's tournament in Waco, falling twice to No. 7 Baylor. North Texas is facing Texas State, Texas Tech, Baylor and UTA this weekend. The Mean Green is 22-22 in the combined series against the four opponents.  

North Texas is facing its second ranked opponent this week. Baylor is ranked No. 25 in the latest USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll. North Texas has not defeated a ranked opponent since defeating No. 18 Baylor at home on March 16, 2011.
