Softball Hosts Lovelace Invitational

DENTON, Texas (2/14/13) - The North Texas softball team hosts the Lovelace Invitational this weekend at Lovelace Stadium. The Mean Green plays Oklahoma State and Nebraska-Omaha on Friday, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The Mean Green (3-2) will face Oklahoma State, Nebraska-Omaha, Iowa and Dayton in the three-day tournament. North Texas is facing Nebraska-Omaha, Iowa and Dayton, all for the first time. NT is 3-8 against the Cowgirls and has not picked up a win against OSU since 2008.

North Texas started four freshmen in each of the first five games. In the opening game against Memphis, Pagie Kisling started at center field, Taylor Schoblocher started at left field, Bryana Wade at catcher and Karly Williams at second base.

Kisling started all five games at center field and picked up her first two hits in the opening game. Taylor Schoblocher started the first two games at left field and then moved to catcher for the final three. She led the freshmen with four hits. Bryana Wade started two games at catcher and one at designated player.

Karly Williams started all five games at second base. She knocked in a run in the championship game against Texas. Madison Tierney saw action in all five games at left field and started the last game. Pitcher Tori Bice started her first game against Texas A&M Corpus Christi and picked up her first win.

Lesley Hirsch was the lead-off hitter for the Mean Green in all five games. She led the Mean Green with five hits in the tournament. One of her biggest hits was her lead-off hit in the championship game against Blaire Luna. Hirsch took the first pitch and slapped it over the third-baseman's head for a single.  

In four of the five games, North Texas was the first team to score. North Texas won three of those games. The Mean Green took a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Texas in the championship game but could not hold off the Longhorns. North Texas scored two runs in the third inning against Memphis, and scored four runs in the first innings against Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Memphis on day two.
