Gregory Named Conference USA Player of the Week
Sophomore Combined For 12 RBI In Opening Week
IRVING - For the first time in her career, sophomore infielder Lacy Gregory was named the Conference USA Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
"It's an honor to receive this award and get the opportunity to represent North Texas," Gregory said. "I love going out every game and being able to contribute to such a great team."
Gregory combined for a team-leading 12 RBI in the team's first three games, headlined by a program-record eight-RBI performance in the season-opening loss to Louisiana Monroe. She went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs and a double.
"Coming out in the opening weekend, most kids need time to see live pitching from other opponents, but I thought Lacy handled it incredibly well," North Texas head coach Tracey Kee said. "We were able to get people on in front of her, which forced people to pitch to her."
The Kingwood, Texas, native also broke the single-game school record for total bases (11) and tied the record for hits (four) and homeruns (two) in a game. She finished the week 7-for-10 with two home runs, two doubles, a .727 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of 1.500.
The Mean Green finished the Mardi Gras Classic 1-2 after pulling out a 5-2 win over the University of Tennessee at Martin on Friday afternoon. Gregory recorded two RBI singles in the game.
