2012 Softball Season Preview - The Infield

The 2012 Mean Green softball team will open its spring season in just over two weeks, and MeanGreenSports.com is preparing fans with a three-part video preview.

The first segment focuses on the Mean Green infield, followed by the outfield and then the battery. Stay tuned for next week's segment on the outfield.

The 2012 team feature a young but experienced squad. Eleven of the 18 players on the roster are freshmen or sophomores, but they are surrounded by a core of strong and versatile upperclassmen. Of the 13 returning letterwinners, five field players recorded at least 30 starts each in 2011.

Head coach T.J. Hubbard returns for his fifth season. He picked up his 100th career win in 2011, becoming the first softball coach at North Texas to accomplish that feat. He finished the 2011 season with an overall win-loss record of 104-111 after four years as head coach.

Senior Lisa Johnson will anchor the infield; starting all but 11 games in her career. She has been a fixture at second base the last three years.

Sophomore Brooke Foster returns after a strong freshman campaign. Foster came in and secured the third-base starting position as a freshman. She hit .322 during Sun Belt play and went on to earn second-team all-conference honors. She became only the third North Texas softball player to earn all-conference honors as a freshman.
