Troy Knocks Mean Green Softball Out Of Conference Tournament

Mobile, Ala. (5/14/10) - The North Texas softball team could not get past Troy, falling to the Trojans, 2-1, in day three action at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at Jaguar Field.

The Troy Trojans beat the Mean Green twice in the tournament, eliminating North Texas with the second loss. North Texas finishes the tournament with a 2-2 record, tying its best record in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Troy advances to the championship game against Louisiana-Lafayette.

North Texas won the first game of the day against FAU, 5-1, but could not get past the Troy Trojans in the second game of the day. Kayla Lawson went 1-1 in the two games. She relieved Brittany Simmons against Troy and pitched two innings, giving up one run off two hits.

Ashlyn Williams picked up second win against the Mean Green. She pitched seven innings and allowed one run off three hits.

Sarah Shields posted the game-winning hit for Troy in the fifth inning. She posted a double, knocking home Courtney Cherry who was on second.

North Texas tied the game, 1-1, in the top of the fifth with an RBI single. Lesley Hirsch reached second base on a dropped third strike by Troy. Renae Bromley brought Hirsch home with an RBI single to right field.

Hayden Gann gave Troy a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning with a solo shot to centerfield.

North Texas finishes play in the tournament with an overall record of 29-20.
