Mean Green Ties School Record For Wins With 3-2 Victory Against UTA

Arlington, Texas (5/5/10) - Renae Bromley knocked in the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning to give the North Texas softball team a 3-2 victory against UTA on Wednesday night at Allan Saxe Field.

The Mean Green improves to 27-17 overall, while UTA falls to 26-23. NT won both of the games against UTA this season. With the 27 wins, North Texas ties a school record for most wins in a season.

With Jessica Shields on second as a pinch runner to start off the eighth inning, Lesley Hirsch advanced her to third with a bunt single. Bromley singled to right field to score Shields for the game-winning run.

Brittany Simmons picked up her fifth win of the season after pitching seven innings and allowing two runs off four hits. The two runs were unearned. Ashley Lail picked up her second save of the season, retiring the Mavs in order in the eighth.

Teri Lyles held the Mean Green to just three hits in the game. Lesley Hirsch posted two of NT's three hits.

Lesley Hirsch gave North Texas a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth with an RBI single. Lisa Johnson scored on the play after reaching base with a walk. UTA took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning off two hits, a Mean Green error and a passed ball.

North Texas tied the game in the top of the seventh off an error and a wild pitch. Johnson reached second on a two-base error with one out. Johnson was substituted for by Anna Barren, who advanced to third on a groundout and then scored off a wild pitch.

The North Texas softball team closes out its 2010 regular season with a single game against No. 12 Oklahoma on Thursday night at 6 p.m. at Lovelace Stadium.
