Costly Errors Lead To ULL Victory Over Mean Green

Lafayette, La. (5/2/10) - Costly Mean Green errors led to a 9-0 run-rule victory for the Louisiana-Lafayette softball team over North Texas on Sunday afternoon at Lamson Park.

The Mean Green falls to 26-17 and 12-9 in the Sun Belt, while the Ragin' Cajuns improve to 36-15 and 17-4 in the conference. ULL sweeps the three-game series with the 9-0 victory. North Texas has only lost two conference series this season.

Four errors in the second and third innings contributed to seven Ragin' Cajun runs. Five of those runs were unearned. Donna Bourgeois held the Mean Green to three hits in five innings of work.

In the second inning, ULL loaded the bases off two hits and a Mean Green throwing error. On a grounder hit to the second baseman, an attempt to get the runner out at home led to two misplays and two scored runs.

In the third, ULL used four hits and a Mean Green throwing error to score four more runs.

ULL drew a bases-loaded walk and posted an RBI single in the fourth to score its eighth and nine runs of the game.

The Mean Green had a scoring opportunity in the top of the third. North Texas loaded the bases off a passed ball, fielder's choice and a base hit by Mallory Cantler. Two grounders to the pitcher ended the threat.

Ashley Lail took the loss for the Mean Green. She falls to 12-7 after giving up seven runs off six hits in three innings of work. Only two runs were earned.

North Texas returns to action on Wednesday, May 5 when it faces UTA at 6 pm on the road.
