Jaguars Win Conference Series Against NT

DENTON, Texas (4/22/12) - Hannah Campbell threw a four-hit complete game shutout to lead the South Alabama softball team to a 2-0 victory against North Texas on Sunday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium.

The Jaguars take the conference series with two victories against the Mean Green. USA improves to 29-14 and 13-6 in the conference, while North Texas falls to 20-24-1 and 10-10-1 in the Sun Belt. The Jaguars have won the last two conference series against the Mean Green.

After losing game one of the series, Campbell came back to hold the Mean Green scoreless. She allowed four hits in seven innings of work, walked one and struck out five Mean Green batters.

 Ashley Kirk (8-11) took the loss. She pitched five innings and allowed two runs off two hits. Brittany Simmons pitched two innings of relief, allowing just two hits. The junior made three appearances in the three-game series and did not give up an earned run in 11 innings of work.

South Alabama jumped out to a1-0 lead in the third inning off an RBI single by Blair Johnson. Britany Campbell scored after leading off with a walk. Kaitlyn Griffith added to the lead in the fourth with a solo home run.

Lesley Hirsch posted two of the Mean Green's four hits. North Texas left five runners stranded on base on Sunday and 25 in the three-game series.

North Texas returns to action on Saturday, April 28 when it faces Troy on the road in a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
