Softball Comes Up Short Against Bobcats

San Marcos, Texas (4/19/11) - Shelby Carnline knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Texas State softball team to a 2-1 victory against North Texas on Tuesday night at Bobcat Field.

The Bobcats win their 10th straight game and improve to 25-18 this season, while the Mean Green falls to 19-26.

Ann Marie Taylor held the Mean Green to just one run off one hit. Caitlin Grimes hit a solo home run in the third inning. Grimes' team-leading eighth home run accounted for the Mean Green's only hit and run of the game.

Texas State outhit the Mean Green, 8-1. Ashley Kirk took the loss for the Mean Green. She pitched 6.0 innings and gave up two runs off seven hits, while striking out five batters.

After the Mean Green's solo home run in the top of the third, Chandler Hall responded with a long ball that tied the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the inning.

Allyce Rother led off the seventh for the Bobcats with a single. Coralee Ramirez pinch ran for Rother and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Brittany Simmons stepped in to relieve Kirk, Ramirez moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. She scored the game-winning run on a bunt single by Carnline.

North Texas returns to action on Thursday, April 21 when it plays South Alabama on the road at 7 p.m.
