DENTON, Texas - North Texas responded from its tough weekend against UAB with a 5-4 win over SFA, its second victory over the Lady Jacks this season.
"After being on a three-game losing streak, it was important for us to get back into the win column," head coach Tracey Kee said. "I'm not 100 percent pleased on how we got it, but like anybody, you will take it and move forward."
North Texas earned three of its runs with two swings of the bat, a two-run blast by junior Kat Strunk in the second inning that scored junior Jen Beardsley and a solo shot by senior Brooke Foster off of the scoreboard in the third.
Senior pitcher Ashley Kirk went the distance for the 11th time on the season, striking out five.
"Knowing that we can't play like we did today and expect to win this series this weekend, we have to come out and play our game," Kirk said. "We need to play up and play North Texas softball."
Strunk's pair of RBI pushed her to fifth on the Mean Green single-season RBI record list, while Foster's homer put her into a tie for fourth place on the single-season home run list.
"We have two days of really hard work to do to prepare for La Tech," coach Kee concluded.
The Mean Green hosts La Tech for a three-game Conference USA series, which begins on Saturday at 1 p.m.
