DENTON, Texas - Senior Ashley Kirk allowed two runs in a complete game against UAB, but it wasn't enough as the Blazers got the timely run late to claim a 2-1 victory over the Mean Green.

"They haven't been at the top of Conference USA because they're average," head coach Tracey Kee said. "We knew we were going to have to play very good ball to get the win."

The Mean Green's lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning when senior Jordan Terry hit her third homer of the year.

But North Texas fought until the final out, ultimately leaving the tying run on at second and the go-ahead run on at first in the bottom of the seventh inning.

"I look at it as two different days, and I don't leave a lot of games with a loss feeling okay but today I did," coach Kee concluded.

With the loss, NT fell to 22-13 on the year and 8-4 in league play.

North Texas is back in action at home on Wednesday, April 2, for a 4 p.m. rematch with SFA. The Mean Green beat the Lady Jacks, 13-4, back on Feb. 22.
