DENTON - North Texas softball's winning streak finally came to a close at seven straight games, after conceding to No. 13 Baylor in Wednesday night non-conference action at Lovelace Stadium. The Mean Green rallied late to pull within 8-5 but fell just short, leaving the bases loaded in its final at bat with the potential winning run at the plate.

In a game that began eerily similar to the first matchup between the two squads earlier this season, the game went scoreless through two full before Baylor finally struck first. In the top of the third, the Bears capitalized on a leadoff double followed by a single to score the game's opening run on a sacrifice fly. BU would add another via fancy base running tactics before the inning would end.

After a solo home run stretched Baylor's lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth, North Texas looked to be in trouble. However a window of opportunity opened in the bottom of the fifth, when the Mean Green brewed up a two-out rally with a walk and a risky bunt single. Senior Kat Strunk then took advantage, blasting a game-tying three run bomb to the truck tailgate area beyond the right field wall.

Baylor responded quickly, retaking the lead in the very next at bat by way of a two-out solo home run to straightaway center field. The Bears never looked back from there, all but sealing up the road victory with a four run top of the seventh, including a two-run homer, to extend the lead to 8-3.

The Mean Green did not go down without a fight however, rallying with two outs to load up the bases in the final frame by way of walks from Karly Williams and Taylor Schoblocher, and a timely line drive single from Kelli Schkade through the left side. A wild "swinging bunt" infield single back to the pitcher by Dani Hoff plated one run and a Mallory Land single added another before North Texas finally bowed out.
