LUBBOCK, Texas – Despite an impressive performance by senior Brooke Foster, the Mean Green was unable to hold off Texas Tech as the Red Raiders swept North Texas, 5-1 and 5-4.

“I felt we came out flat in the first game,” head coach Tracey Kee said. “I didn’t feel like we came out with the energy we needed to beat a quality team.”

In the opener, Texas Tech hit hard in the fourth inning, scoring three of its four runs with two outs.

Down 5-0 in the sixth inning, NT scored its sole run of the game off of a Dani Hoff solo shot to right field, but that would be all she wrote in game one of the two-game swing.

“I felt in the second game that we made some good adjustments,” coach Kee continued. “We understood that it was important to bring some energy, have quality at bats, and that game could have gone either way. We put ourselves in a position to win, and unfortunately we did not fall on that side of it.”

The Mean Green showed some resiliency in game two, beginning with a lead-off home run by Foster and another run in the second inning before Texas Tech scored four in the third.

Down one in the sixth inning, Foster once again made the clutch play with an RBI single up the middle that scored freshman Shelbie Smith. But Texas Tech retaliated with a home run in the bottom of the sixth to go up for good.

“Hopefully we use these two losses to motivate us going into El Paso,” coach Kee concluded.

It is a quick turnaround for the Mean Green as it heads further west to El Paso for a Conference USA series with UTEP. It begins with a doubleheader on Friday, March 21, at 1 p.m.
