BOX SCORE: North Texas 4, Tulsa 2

Season Statistics

DENTON - After losing a late lead to No. 25 Tulsa in a neutral site matchup in Waco earlier this season, North Texas found itself in an all too familiar position today. However, Monday afternoon's result was different, as the Mean Green buckled down to preserve a narrow 4-2 victory over the Golden Hurricane in a rematch.

North Texas opened up the game strong offensively, thanks to back-to-back singles by Kelli Schkade and Kat Strunk to lead off the bottom of the first. A two-out line drive single right back up the middle by Mallory Land plated both runners to put the Mean Green up 2-0 after the first frame.

As hot as the temperatures were in Lovelace Stadium on Monday, Land's bat was even hotter. She added an RBI double with two outs in the third to account for three of the four North Texas runs on the board. The very next batter, Catcher Bryana Wade, singled to center field to bring Land home for the final run.

Sophomore pitcher Stacey Underwood seems to be developing into a potential ace for the Mean Green, notching her team-leading sixth win of the season against Tulsa. Through 5.0 innings in the circle, Underwood only allowed two blemishes, a solo shot in the second inning and a one-run single in the fourth.

For the second straight day, sophomore Kenzie Grimes stepped into the closing role of a 4-2 ballgame, where she seems to be thriving. Grimes allowed just one of her seven batters faced to reach base in 2.0 innings pitched, en route to her second save this season.

Next Up:
  • North Texas will take some valuable time off before traveling to Miami this weekend to continue Conference USA play with a three game series at FIU. The Mean Green will take on the Golden Panthers in game one on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. CT.
