NT Softball Rips Off 10th-Straight Win With Mashing Of SFA
#MGSB Clinches Number One Seed In Final Day Of Shootout
Feb. 22, 2014
DENTON, Texas – The Mean Green softball crew rolled to its 10th-straight victory with a 13-4 win over SFA to remain unbeaten in the Texas Shootout.
The win clinched the number one seed in Sunday’s tournament bracket where the Mean Green will face Texas State, a team that NT knocked off on Thursday night.
“It was a solid game from us all the way around,” head coach Tracey Kee said. “As a coach you’re happy to get a lead-off home run to set the tone, and offensively, I thought we came up with some clutch two-out hits to score some runs.”
“I was pretty upset with my first at bat because I grounded out to the pitcher so I just wanted to put the bat on the ball well,” Hoff said.
“I think we swung the bats well in the cage in warm ups, and Kirk gave us a lot of confidence with the way she pitched in her last outing,” Hoff said.
Senior ace pitcher Ashley Kirk notched her team-leading sixth win of the season, only giving up two hits.
“Kirk settled in well,” coach Kee said. “The only disappointment I had was when we spotted them one run, but we answered it back with six.”
North Texas will play against Texas State in the championship game of the Texas Shootout on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 11:30 a.m. at Lovelace Stadium.
