Softball Defeats Texas Tech, 5-3

San Marcos, Texas (2/22/13) - Sophomore Jordan Terry knocked in three runs to lead the North Texas softball team to a 5-3 win against Texas Tech on Friday night at Bobcat Stadium.

The Mean Green wins its second straight game and improves to 6-7 overall. North Texas will face No. 25 Baylor, who is 3-0 in the tournament, on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Texas Tech falls to 8-4 and 1-1 in the tournament. North Texas leads the series against the Red Raiders, 4-3.

Terry led the Mean Green offense with two extra-base hits. She knocked in three runs and leads the team with eight RBI.

Terry gave North Texas a 2-0 lead in the second inning with a two-run homer. It was her first home run of the season and the fourth of her career. Paige Kisling also singled in the inning and scored on the long ball.

The Red Raiders tacked on a run in the bottom of the second and then tied the game in the third with an RBI double.

Tori Bice knocked in the first run of her career with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Taylor Schoblocher, who reached third base on an error, scored the Mean Green's third run of the game.

Brooke Foster led off the sixth with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice. Jackie Miller brought home Foster with a pinch-hit double. The run proved to be the game winner. Terry followed Miller with an RBI double, giving North Texas a 5-2 advantage.

Texas Tech walked in a run in the sixth, but Brittany Simmons retired the side in the seventh to preserve the win.

Bice won her second game, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing two unearned runs off five hits. Simmons picked up her fourth career save, pitching two hitless innings. The four career saves is a school record.

North Texas continues action in the Texas Shootout with two games on Saturday. The Mean Green faces Baylor at 9:30 am. and UTA at 11:30 a.m.
