Fraley Homers In Mean Green Loss

Houston, Texas (2/12/12) - The No. 20 Houston softball team scored early and the Mean Green could not catch up in a 10-2 Cougars win on Sunday afternoon at the Cougar Stadium.

The Mean Green falls to 1-3, while the Cougars improve to 4-0. North Texas finished the Houston Hilton Plaza Classic with a 1-3 record. The Cougars are now 1-0 in the series against the Mean Green.

UH pitcher Diedre Outon held North Texas scoreless for six innings until Maddelyn Fraley hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh. Outon pitched seven innings, allowing two runs off six hits.

Houston scored five runs in the first two innings, including a two-run homer by Holly Anderson to take an early lead. North Texas recorded six hits against Outon but stranded seven runners. Sydney Gerbracht sealed the win for Houston with a two-run homer in the seventh.

Ashley Kirk (0-2) took the loss for the Mean Green, allowing five runs off five hits.

Brooke Foster led the Mean Green offense in the tournament with five hits. Fraley knocked in four runs with two home runs.

North Texas returns to action next weekend when it hosts the Fairfield Inn & Suites Classic at Lovelace Stadium.
