Holden And Pineda Named All-Central Region
Duo Cap Stellar Seasons With First-Team Honors
DENTON -Rachel Holden and Karla Pineda were named to the NSCAA All-Central Region First Team, marking the fourth-consecutive year that North Texas soccer placed two players on the all-region squad.
The all-region awards cap stellar seasons for Holden and Pineda, who led the Mean Green to a Conference USA regular-season title, a conference tournament championship and an NCAA appearance. Pineda is receiving her second straight all-region recognition and her first 1st-team selection. Holden is receiving her second first-team all-region selection in three years. She received first-team all-region honors as a freshman.
Holden was named C-USA Co-Offensive Player of the Year after leading the Mean Green with 12 goals and 27 points. The junior led the conference with six goals in league play, scoring a goal in four-straight games, with two of them game-winners. Holden led the conference and ranked nationally with six game-winning goals. Holden was named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week on October 19 for her game-winning goals against Middle Tennessee and UAB.
Pineda was named C-USA Midfielder of the Year after serving up eight assists and scoring seven goals during her senior season. The eight assists tied for second in the conference and added to her career total of 32 assists, which ranks second in school history. One of her biggest shots of the season came against TCU, when she scored the game-winning goal off a set piece in the 86th minute. She also lofted a 35-yard shot against Rice that went over the goalkeeper's head and ended up being the game-winner and helped the Mean Green win the regular-season title.
