DENTON – Jackie Kerestine and Karla Pineda were named to the NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Region Second Team, marking the third-consecutive year that North Texas soccer placed two players on the all-region squad.

The all-region awards cap stellar seasons for Kerestine and Pineda, who led the Mean Green to a regular-season Conference USA championship in 2014. The all-region nods are firsts for both players.

Pineda, a junior midfielder, was named first-team all-conference after scoring 11 goals and dishing out 10 assists. The midfielder served up three assists in the conference tournament, helping the Mean Green advance to the conference finals. As the team’s free-kick specialist, she recorded eight tallies and set up six goals from set pieces.

Kerestine, a junior goalkeeper, was named second-team all-conference after leading C-USA in shutouts (14), goals against average (0.51) and save percentage (.902). Her GAA set a league single-season record. She was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week four times in 2014, and was the only player to receive weekly recognition from the conference more than two times.

Kerestine also set multiple records during her junior campaign, breaking Mean Green career marks in shutouts, saves and wins. She also broke the single-season school record for shutouts and GAA. Nationally, she was ranked in the top 20 throughout the season in GAA and save percentage.
