DENTON (11/7/05) - The North Texas women’s soccer team will face metroplex rival SMU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday at 5 p.m. in College Station, Tex.
North Texas is the second seed in the College Station Regional, along with Texas A&M, SMU, and Northwestern State.
The Mean Green (16-3-2), fresh off its second consecutive Sun Belt Conference Tournament title, will take on the Mustangs in a rematch of the two teams from earlier in the season.
North Texas beat SMU 3-1 on Sept. 4 in Dallas as sophomore forward Heather Hutyra recorded a hat trick in the win. Goalkeeper Kandice Ellis made a career-high 11 saves in the match. SMU leads the all-time series with North Texas 5-3-1, but the two teams have split the last five matches evenly at 2-2-1.
