DALLAS, Tex. (11/4/07) In what is becoming a frustrating trend for the North Texas women’s soccer team SMU scored two second half goals to rally for a 2-1 win over the Mean Green from Westcott Field.
It is the fifth straight loss for North Texas (13-7) and the third straight game in which the Mean Green has scored the game’s first goal but been unable to make that lead hold up.
Sophomore Kendall Juett scored the first goal of the match in the 54th minute of the game to give the Mean Green a 1-0 lead. The goal came off a free kick as Lauren Shockey placed it perfectly into the SMU (9-7-1) box and Juett headed it past the Mustangs goalkeeper Amy Bennett.
SMU tied things up 12 minutes later when Kimber Bailey scored off a free kick from 25 yards out that curled over North Texas keeper Amanda Hall.
The Mustangs took the lead for good in the 72nd minute when Brittany Vice took a lead pass from Bailey to notch the game-winning goal.
North Texas now gears up for another run at the NCAA Tournament with the start of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Mean Green faces Louisiana-Lafayette in the first round on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Mobile, Ala.
