Three Mean Green Soccer Players Named To C-USA All-Academic Team
Slaughter, Holden And Sutton Honored For Their Work In The Classroom
IRVING – After helping the Mean Green capture their third straight Conference USA regular-season title last week, three North Texas soccer players were rewarded for their work in the classroom. Kelci Slaughter, Rachel Holden and Hailey Sutton were named to the Conference USA InTouch Credit Union Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team.
Slaughter was named to the first team and is a first-time honoree, while Holden was voted to the second team for the second straight year after being named a first-team honoree as a sophomore. Sutton was named to the second team for the first time in her career.
Slaughter is an accounting major with a 3.9 grade-point-average. She was named to the North Texas President’s List for posting at least a 4.0 in one of the two semesters in a school year twice, and was also a C-USA Academic Medal Winner the last two years.
Slaughter has played in 17 of the Mean Green’s 19 games. She started out the year in the defense but moved up to the midfield in the second half of the season. She recorded an assist against Texas Southern.
Holden is a kinesiology major with a 3.5 G.PA. She was named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll the last two years, and was also named a C-USA Academic Medal Winner for the 2013-14 school year.
The forward was named C-USA All-Conference Second after leading the Mean Green with 10 goals and 24 points. In the conference, she is tied for first in goals, tied for second in points and tied for eighth in assists with four. She scored the game-winning goal in the opening round of the C-USA Championship against Old Dominion.
Sutton carries a 4.0 GPA as a journalism graduate student at North Texas. She has been a scoring threat in conference play, scoring five goals. She scored three goals in three straight games, starting with Marshall. She came off the bench to score the game-tying goal in the come-from-behind win against the Thundering Herd, scored 19 seconds into the WKU game to give North Texas an early lead and scored the lone goal and the game-winning tally against UTEP. She also scored the first goal against Louisiana Tech, and dished out the game-winning assist against Old Dominion in the opening round of the C-USA Championship.
