Lafayette, LA (11/2/06) - The North Texas soccer team continues its quest for its third Sun Belt conference championship and NCAA bid when the Mean Green plays Middle Tennessee tonight at 7 pm in semi-final action.
The No. 3 seeded Mean Green defeated host school Lafayette, 5-1, to advance in the conference tournament. The No. 2 Blue Raiders defeated South Alabama, 2-0, earlier on Wednesday. The top seed Denver plays No. 4 seed Florida Atlantic in the other semi-final.
North Texas (14-4-2) has won seven straight games in the SBC Tournament. The Mean Green lost earlier in season to the Blue Raiders 3-2 at home, snapping its 23-game home unbeaten streak. North Texas has not beaten Middle Tennessee since the 2003 conference tournament.
With a win over Middle Tennessee the Mean Green will advance to its seventh straight Sun Belt Conference final. No team in the SBC has more than three apperances in the tournament final.
Freshman Kendall Juett is two points away from moving into second place at North Texas for points by a freshman. Her 12 goals are the third most by a North Texas freshman. The 14 wins for North Texas is tied for the fifth most wins in school history.
All seven games of the 2006 Johnny Carino’s Sun Belt Soccer Tournament will be available live on the Sun Belt website, www.sunbeltsports.org. The tournament may be viewed live via web streaming at a cost of $9.95.
