Top-Seeded Mean Green Will Face WKU In Conference USA Championship

DENTON - The top-seeded Mean Green soccer team will play No. 8 WKU in the opening round of the Conference USA tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 10 a.m., central time, in Miami, Fla.

The Mean Green won the Conference USA regular-season title for the second straight year and earned the No. 1 seed in the championship tournament.

The top eight teams in the conference advanced to the tournament. WKU took the last spot with a 4-3-3 conference record. The Mean Green and the Hilltoppers did not face each other during the regular season.

The Mean Green and WKU teams have a history dating back to their days in the Sun Belt Conference. North Texas holds an 11-7-2 all-time series record against the Hilltoppers. NT is 1-0 against WKU as members of Conference USA, 6-5-1 as Sun Belt members and 4-2-1 in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

The Mean Green brings a 16-3-1 record into the conference tournament. North Texas went 8-0 down the stretch before falling, 1-0, to Louisiana Tech in its regular-season finale.

North Texas is playing in its third straight Conference USA Tournament. The Mean Green has a record of 4-2 in the conference tournament and has advanced to the championship game both years.

The bracket sets up a potential match-up with No. 4 Rice in the semifinals. The Mean Green and the Owls played each in the championship game last year with Rice coming up with the victory. North Texas defeated Rice, 2-1, in the regular season.
