Davis Named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week
Davis Receives Award For The Second Straight Week
DENTON – For the second straight week, Marchelle Davis led the Mean Green to two wins and was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week after posting five points in a combined two games.
“Marchelle has been our rock all year, not only with her outstanding play but with her leadership as well,” North Texas head coach John Hedlund said. “I’m so happy for Marchelle to receive this award two weeks in a row. She had another outstanding weekend and played a major role in both wins and clinching the regular season championship.”
Davis was involved in all three Mean Green goals in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Louisiana Tech. She set up the Mean Green’s opening goal with a long pass up the middle to Hailey Sutton, she converted a penalty kick to give North Texas a 2-1 lead then dished out an assist to Rachel Holden with a free kick for the team’s final goal. Davis also had the assist on the game-winning goal in Friday’s win against FIU.
With the two wins, the Mean Green clinched the No. 1 seed in the Conference USA Championship and won the regular-season conference title for the third straight year. Davis moved into first place on the team in points with 23 and assists with seven. She is also tied for first in the conference and 38th nationally with four game-winning goals.
The top-seeded Mean Green play No. 8 Old Dominion in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Championship on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m., central time, in Charlotte, N.C.
