DENTON - The Mean Green soccer team won a share of the Conference USA regular-season conference title with its two wins this past weekend.  Junior goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine led the defense, while midfielder Karla Pineda paced the offense and both were honored by the conference office.

Kerestine received defensive player of the week honors for the third time this season after posting two more shutouts, and Pineda was named co-offensive player of the week with her four goals and one assist in the two victories.

"It was a great weekend for Jackie and Karla,” said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. “Both of them are playing at such a high level with Karla consistently scoring goals and Jackie getting the shutouts. They are a big part of our success this year.”

With her two wins and four saves against Charlotte and ODU, Kerestine set the career saves and wins records at North Texas. The goalkeeper has 259 career saves and 44 career wins over her three-year tenure. The junior also recorded her 11th shutout, which leads the conference and is the single-season program record.

Pineda registered nine points on four goals and an assist in the two wins. In the 5-0 win against Charlotte, she scored the first and fourth goals of the game with low shots to the corners of the goal. She set up the final goal off a free kick. Pineda had both goals in the 2-0 win against ODU. She scored directly off a corner kick for the third time this season and then converted a penalty kick for the third time this season. She leads the team with 11 goals and 7 assists.

Pineda shares the offensive player of the week award with Lauren Hughes of Rice. Hughes also put up nine points against Charlotte and ODU.
