On Tap The No. 9 ranked team in the South Region, North Texas, finishes the regular season with rival Denver, as the Mean Green look to enter the Sun Belt Tournament as the No. 2 seed. For North Texas to improve its seeding from 3 to 2, it must win and have Middle Tennessee lose to Western Kentucky. The Mean Green are riding an eight game unbeaten streak entering this game. A win or a tie would give North Texas their longest unbeaten streak since 2006 (11-0-1) and the Mean Green its first undefeated October in program history.

Goal Differential North Texas is third in the nation in goal differential, with 48 goals scored and 13 goals allowed (+35). Only #1 Stanford (+41) and #3 North Carolina (+39) have better goal differentials on the season.

Stone Wall Mandy Hall Mandy Hall has already placed her name among the best goalkeepers in North Texas history. Hall sits first in career shutouts (23) and saves (245), and ranks second in career goals against average (0.95).

Denver Series History North Texas has not beaten the Pioneers since 2005, as Denver has dominated the series recently. The two sides are the class of the SBC, having met in five conference finals, most recently in 2007. Denver serves as a good litmus test for the Mean Green, of the four times North Texas has beaten Denver, three of them (2001, 2004 and 2005) have been North Texas’ conference title years.
North Texas vs. the Top 25 The Mean Green have not played  game against a Top 25 team since a 2-0 loss to #25 Ohio State on 9/18/2009. North Texas’ last victory against a ranked team was against #20 Denver, on 10/10/2003 when North Texas won 3-2 in overtime. Overall, North Texas is 3-11 against the Top 25.

All We Do Is Win North Texas has never had a losing season in their 15 years as a program, and has clinched a 16th straight winning season in 2010. Only North Carolina (28 seasons), William & Mary (28), Portland (24), Notre Dame (22), Stanford (22) and Penn State (16) have active streaks of more consecutive winning seasons entering this year. William & Mary and Penn State have not yet clinched winning seasons in 2010, while the other schools have.
Fan Support The contest against SMU saw North Texas welcome a record number of fans, with 1,246 fans passing through the turnstiles to see the 3-2 overtime contest in Denton. North Texas soccer was putting on a benefit for Livestrong that night, and wore special yellow jerseys, sold shirts and took donations that benefited Livestrong. The previous high for a North Texas home game was 1,173, set on 9/5/2008 vs. Oklahoma.
Young Forever Michelle Young was awarded Sun Belt Player of the Week the week of October 17th for her 3 goals and 2 assists against FIU and FAU. She scored a goal or assisted on a goal in all six games of North Texas’ six game winning streak from 10/1 to 10/17. Overall, North Texas is 9-0-1 when she scores or assists.
Four More Years? Over the past four years (current through 10/26/2010), North Texas is tied with four other schools for 23rd with 54 wins over those four seasons, according to research by CollegeSoccer360.com.
We Must Protect This House Since the 2000 season, the Mean Green has been nearly perfect in defending its home turf. North Texas is riding an nine game home Sun Belt winning streak, and is 13-1 in their last 13 home conference games. North Texas is currently 11-1-1 in their last 13 games at home. During the past 10 plus seasons the Mean Green has made its way into the NCAA record books at home. The Mean Green went unbeaten for 24 straight games from Oct. 3, 1999 until Oct. 11, 2002. That streak is the 12th longest in NCAA history. Two years later a new one started on Oct. 3, 2004 and didn’t end until Oct. 22, 2007. It covered 23 straight games and is the 13th longest home unbeaten streak in NCAA history. North Texas is one of just three schools in the nation to have two unbeaten streaks at home of 23 games or more in NCAA history. 
Every Game Kara Brooks enters this weekend having played all of North Texas’ last 1230 minutes without seeing the bench. Brooks had played 1758 of North Texas’ 1781 minutes this season, only sitting out for six minutes against New Mexico and the last 23 minutes against Texas Southern.
October Sky North Texas is unbeaten so far in October, as the team has rolled through this portion of the schedule. North Texas has outscored its opponents 23-3 in October while going 7-0-1.
LAST WEEKEND North Texas 2, Arkansas State 0 North Texas used two goals in the closing stages of the game to defeat Arkansas State 2-0, and extend their unbeaten streak to eight. Carly McDowell and Ellen Scarfone scored for the Mean Green.
“I was really happy with the way we played in the second half. We stepped up, we didn’t quit, and we found a way to score a couple of goals,” said North Texas Head Coach John Hedlund. “I think we showed our character in the second half, we came out a little flat in the first half.”
Carly McDowell broke the tie in the 81st minute when she scored off an assist from Kelsey Hodges. The goal was the 4th of the season for McDowell, and was the first assist of the season for Hodges.
Ellen Scarfone tacked on a goal in the 86th minute when her volley deflected in off the crossbar. Scarfone now has a point in seven of the eight games in North Texas’ unbeaten streak, and goals in her last two. Scarfone has seven goals on the season. Carly McDowell picked up the assist, giving her three points on the afternoon.
Mandy Hall picked up her sixth shutout of the year and posted her 10th scoreless outing. Hall’s six shutouts in 2010 ties her 2008 season for fifth all-time at North Texas. 
North Texas 1, UALR 1 (2OT) LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- North Texas improved their unbeaten streak to seven games, matching another seven game unbeaten streak last season, as it played UALR to a 1-1 tie on Thursday night. Ellen Scarfone scored the only Mean Green goal of the night.
“Give UALR credit, we threw everything at them,” said North Texas Head Coach John Hedlund. “30 shots, 19 on goal, but nothing would go in. It was one of those crazy games.”
North Texas dominated every facet of the game, but could not earn more than a tie. North Texas had 19 shots on goal, the most for the Mean Green since the season opener against Texas Southern, to UALR’s three and had 30 total shots to UALR’s nine. North Texas earned seven corners to UALR’s one.
Dana Pearson scored in the 7th minute for UALR. North Texas’ Ellen Scarfone netted her sixth goal of the season on a  22nd minute penalty kick. She is now 3-for-3 on Penalty Kicks this season. .
 

 

North Texas Mean Green
