BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (10/26/07) 90 minutes wasn’t enough time to settle the top spot atop the Sun Belt Conference soccer standings in the showdown between the North Texas and Western Kentucky, but the Lady Toppers scored the only goal of the match in overtime to win 1-0 at the WKU Soccer Complex.
The loss is the second straight for North Texas (13-4, 7-2) and drops the Mean Green to 7-2 in Sun Belt Conference play while Western Kentucky remains unbeaten at 8-0-1 and can win the regular season title with a win or a tie in its final two games.
The match, which was a physical contest from the onset, saw both teams fire 12 shots in the game but Western Kentucky (13-1-2, 8-0-1) scored seven minutes into the first overtime period. Morgan Thomas put home her fourth goal of the season off a corner kick from Alicia Dalby for the game-winner.
North Texas came out firing with four shots in the first 10 minutes of the match but could not find the back of the net. Heather Hutyra had four shots while Kendall Juett had three. Freshman goalkeeper Amanda Hall made five saves in the match.
