DENTON (10/26/03)- Playing in the final home game of her career senior forward Marilyn Marin scored two goals and had an assist to power the North Texas (12-5-1, 5-1-1) women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over South Alabama (6-10-2, 3-3) at the Mean Green Soccer Complex.
The win completes a perfect home season for North Texas as they end the year with a school record 11 home wins and finish unbeaten at home for only the second time in school history.
Playing in blustery conditions, the Mean Green started the scoring off in the 30th minute when junior midfielder Alyssa Carrier scored her third goal of the season on a header off a corner kick from Marin.
The match remained 1-0 North Texas until Marin scored her 17th goal of the season in the 52nd minute. Marin scorched a shot from the top of the box from 20 yards out that scraped the top of the cross bar and went in over the reach of Jaguar goalkeeper Amber Angermeier.
Marin capped off the afternoon in the 80th minute with her 18th goal of the season from 12 yards out on a feed from Misty Cordon. Marin's goal tied her for the team lead with forward Melinda Pina.
Goalkeeper Briana Buchanan made four saves on the afternoon to record her sixth shutout of the season. The win for North Texas at home pushes their home record to 25-1 over the last three seasons. The Mean Green play their final game of the season before the Sun Belt Conference Tournament next Sunday with a road match at Florida International .
