DENTON, Texas- Sophomore forward Michelle Young was named Sun Belt Player of the Week for the week ending October 17th, as she scored three goals and registered two assists over the weekend as the Mean Green beat FIU and FAU at home. She now leads the Mean Green with 21 points (8 goals/5 assists)
Michelle Young scored twice on Sunday afternoon, continuing her hot streak that has seen her score a goal or collect an assist in all six games of North Texas' winning streak. In the 21st minute, she blocked a upfield pass from the keeper with her body, collected the loose ball, and tapped it into the net to make the score 3-0. Young scored her 8th goal of the season in the 58th minute, when she received a pass from Loreli Ramsey in the box and scored from a sharp angle. Young added her fifth assist of the year on North Texas' fourth goal, and now has assist in four straight games.
The sophomore from Mesquite also was involved in both goals of North Texas' 2-1 come-from-behind victory against FIU. Young assisted Kelsey Hodges by executing a one-two in the 21st minute to tie the score at one, and scored herself on a through ball in the 76th minute. The victory over FIU moved North Texas into a tie for 2nd place.
North Texas returns to the pitch on Thursday, October 21 as it plays UALR in Little Rock. The Mean Green host their final home game of the year on Sunday, October 24 as they host Arkansas State at 1 p.m.
