JONESBORO, Ark. (10/19/07) The North Texas women’s soccer team remained perfect in Sun Belt Conference play with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Arkansas State. It’s the seventh straight win for the Mean Green (13-2, 7-0) as they keep pace with Western Kentucky at 7-0 atop the league standings.
All of the offense in this match came early as the Mean Green jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the 8th minute as Kendall Juett scored her eighth goal of the season. Arkansas State (3-10-1, 0-6-1) evened the game up at 1-1 when Anna Steckal scored off a corner kick in the 15th minute of play.
North Texas didn’t take long to respond as Veronica Ayala made is 2-1 Mean Green two minutes later with her fourth goal of the season. Ayala had a game high three points as she assisted on Juett’s goal.
The game turned physical as there were two yellow cards and a red card handed out but the Mean Green was too much for the Indians. North Texas outshot Arkansas State 22-9 and freshman goalkeeper Amanda Hall made four saves to pick up the win.
North Texas looks to make it eight straight wins as they travel to face UALR on Sunday afternoon.
