MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (10/19/03)- The North Texas (10-4-1, 3-1-1) women's soccer team dropped their first Sun Belt Conference game of the year as Middle Tennessee (9-6, 4-1) scored two minutes into the first overtime to pick up a 4-3 win. North Texas, playing in their third consecutive overtime game, falls into a second place tie with Western Kentucky at 3-1-1 and sit a half game behind conference leaders Denver and Middle Tennessee.
The Blue Raiders won the game on Rachel Holmes first goal of the season as she scored from six yards out in the box just 2:20 into the overtime period.
The Mean Green opened the scoring up when senior forward Marilyn Marin collected her 14th goal of the season on a breakaway in the 9th minute of play. The Blue Raiders responded with two goals in a span of 21 seconds. The first coming from Claire Ward at 32:25 and then Laura Miguez gave Middle Tennessee a 2-1 lead with a goal from 20 yards out.
Junior forward Melinda Pina tied the game up one minute later with her 18th goal of the season, but the Blue Raiders reclaimed the lead at 3-2 in the 35th minute on a goal by Brooke Ward. The score remained that way until the 61st minute when Pina scored her second goal of the afternoon and 19th of the season to tie the score at 3-3.
Goalkeeper Briana Buchanan made six saves on the afternoon and midfielder Jessica Koschmann picked up her first assist on the season.
North Texas steps out of the Sun Belt Conference for their next match as they battle metroplex rival SMU on Wednesday October 22 at 7 p.m. from Westcott field in Dallas
